What is Accounts Software?

Accounts (or Accounting) software is application software that records and processes accounting transactions within functional modules such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and trial balance. It functions as an accounting information system. It may be developed in-house by the company or organization using it, may be purchased from a third party, or may be a combination of a third-party application software package with local modifications. It varies greatly in its complexity and cost.

What is Business Management Software?

Business management software (sometimes referred to as ERP software) refers to an integrated modular software suite which helps you manage all the key areas of your business. Accounting and financial modules are usually at the core of these applications (and so most business management solutions, such as Sage 200 and Microsoft Dynamics NAV, can be used as stand-alone accounting products if required). Other process or function specific modules (normally optional so you can choose the ones relevant to your business), will usually cover CRM, HR, payroll, project management, service management, business intelligence, reporting, supply chains, inventory, construction, manufacturing, distribution, and so on. Often different software vendors will have developed specialised modules to match further, more niche business needs.

How do I choose between Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 and Sage 200?

Generally Microsoft Dynamics NAV is used by larger organisations with more complex processes than those which use the Sage 200 suite. However, choosing between Sage 200 and Microsoft Dynamics NAV is not a straightforward decision. There are a variety of differentiators between the products, some quite subtle, and many factors you will need to take into account.
